Where creativity and care come together

Welcome to The Canvas Community — bringing colour, joy, and connection to people through art. Our sessions are person centred and inspire self-expression, spark nostalgia, ease loneliness, and celebrate creativity, all while connecting people with their community in the beautiful South Lake District.

Our services

At The Canvas Community, we deliver art sessions designed to ease loneliness and bring people together. We believe in giving everyone a voice and helping people feel heard. Art isn’t about perfection — many think they “can’t do art,” but it’s really about the process and the connection, expression, and joy that comes from creating.

Art Classes for People Living with Dementia

Our approach is rooted in empathy and connection, placing each person at the heart of the creative process. With people living with dementia, we focus on shared exploration and expression, tailoring sessions to abilities and needs. Whether through painting, music, movement, or gentle engagement, every smile, spark of recognition, or moment of joy is celebrated.

Group Art Classes

Our group art classes are a relaxed and creative space where everyone is welcome, whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or are an experienced artist. In care homes, our themed projects take participants on a gentle ‘trip down memory lane,’ sparking memories, conversation, and laughter. By working together around shared themes, everyone has the chance to express themselves, connect with others, and enjoy the simple joy of creating as a community.

School Murals & Creative Workshops

We bring schools to life with collaborative mural projects and creative workshops that engage students, inspire teamwork, and brighten learning spaces. Each project encourages self-expression and gives pupils a sense of pride in their shared creation.
